TJ's Pizza Fundraiser
The TJ's Pizza sale will begin on January 11th. Students can pick up the order form in the band room, or you can download the order form here. Order forms must be turned in to the band room safe by 3pm on January 22nd. Please no cash and turn in order form with one check or money order made out to GCHSBPA. All band members who sold TJ's Pizzas will need to pick up their order for delivery in the high school band room on Wednesday, February 3rd between 6:30 and 7:00pm. |
SIUE Bi-State Band Festival 2010
I am pleased to announce that the SIUE Bi-State Band Festival will be held on the campus of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville on Friday and Saturday, January 15-16, 2010. Each year, over 60 high schools in Illinois and Missouri participate in this sanctioned band festival. Guest conductor for the 2010 SIUE Bi-State High School Honor Band will be Dr. Joseph Allison, Professor of Music and Director of Bands at Eastern Kentucky University. In addition to the Honor Band, two Festival bands will be formed and conducted by Mark Tessereau, Director of Bands at Belleville East High School, and Paul Hinman, Director of Bands at Jefferson City High School in Jefferson City, Missouri. Each student participating is guaranteed to have a great experience. Clinics with SIUE applied faculty and performances by SIUE ensembles add to the uniqueness of this weekend. Admission to all concerts is free and open to the public.
The SIUE Bi-State Honor and Festival Bands are created through nominations submitted by band directors from the participating schools. The following GCHS Band members have been selected to participate in the festival.

- Rachael Hutson – French Horn

IMEA All-State Band Festival Honors
CONGRATULATIONS to the following students on being selected to the Illinois Music Educators Association ALL-STATE Band Festival.
- Robbie Lawson – Clarinet
- Ray Hussmann - Tuba
The students will travel to Peoria, Illinois, on January 27th where they will audition for their seats in the 2010 IMEA All-State Bands. The students will rehearse with the best student musicians from all over the state for the next two days. These rehearsals culminate with the All-State Concert, held in the Peoria Civic Center on January 30th. This is the highest honor a high school musician can receive and we are extremely proud of them!

IMEA District VI Jazz Festival
CONGRATULATIONS to the following students on being selected to the Illinois Music Educators Association District VI Jazz Festival! - Tyler Bolt - Alto Sax
- Conor Mathenia - Piano
Tyler and Conor will travel to McKendree College in Lebanon, IL on November 14th where they will rehearse with the finest high school musicians from Southern Illinois! These rehearsals culminate with the All-District Concert, held in the Hettenhausen Center for the Arts. This is one of the highest honors high school musicians can receive and we are very proud of them! |
